As A Song Of A World
A Multimedia Opera by Jessie Cox

VIDEO - jessiecoxmusic.com/as-a-song-of-a-world

Saturday, October 24 at 2pm EST, Either/Or presents the live stream premiere of Jessie Cox's new multimedia opera, As a Song of a World, an innovative new work that crosses genre boundaries of New Classical Music, Free Jazz, Electronics and more.

The performance feature Either/Or members Pauline Kim Harris (violin), Vasko Dukovski (bass clarinet), and James Ilgenfritz (double bass) and special guests Jessie Cox (drums, electronics), Bethany Younge (voice), Yuma Uesaka (cyborg clarinet), Ras Moshe (tenor sax), and Isaac Jean-François (Q&A Host).

While rooted in various musical traditions, Cox's compositions defy categorization. With influences ranging from Sun Ra, Helmut Lachenmann, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, his music explores sonic extremes through an expansive array of extended techniques and subtle exploration of improvised orchestrations. He often imagines and creates extended instruments in collaboration with the performers.Cox is a composer and drummer whose work has been described by the LA Times as "some of the most experimental music of not just the day but the season...held a listener's attention with surprises and delights aplenty."

A Zoom Q&A immediately follows the performance hosted by scholar and activist Isaac Jean-Francois

Each of the two events will be followed by a live discussion of the music with the composers and performers. Carrick and EO Curator Chris McIntyre will host, taking and directing questions from the audience. A Zoom link will be distributed at the end of each presentation.
