COMPOSER PORTRAITS: Anthony Braxton
Either/Or returns to Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts to present COMPOSER PORTRAITS: Anthony Braxton. In collaboration with JACK Quartet and in celebration of Braxton’s 75th year, EO perform a range of this iconoclastic composer and virtuoso performer’s compositions that span 40 years of his illustrious career as a creator. Visit Miller’s Event Page for more details on the Sep. 25 program, and Tri-Centric Foundation website for information about Anthony’s musical world.

Featuring two premieres from a long-time E/O collaborator. If We Knew the Sky, for large ensemble (world premiere, commissioned by E/O with support from the Jebediah Foundation), and Letting Time Circle Through Us, for sextet (NY premiere, commissioned by E/O with support from Meet the Composer/Commissioning USA).
The festival culminates on June 29th with a special event for Either/Or's 10th Birthday: Morton Feldman's rarely heard 4 1/2 hour epic, For Philip Guston, at Brooklyn's Issue Project Room. E/O has championed Feldman's music for the past decade and his late trios for flute, piano, and percussion are among the works closest to the heart of the Either/Or repertoire. This will be a rare performance of one of the true masterworks of late 20th century experimentalism, balancing the sheer timbral beauty of this unique ensemble with virtuosic interplay and Feldman's inimitable sense of scale.
Tickets are $15 and available online through the Issue Project Room website : http://issueprojectroom.org/event/either-or-feldman-guston
June 27th E/O returns to Whitebox for a CD release concert for co-director Richard Carrick's Stone Guitars (released on New Focus Recordings), multi-layered electric guitar music featuring special guests Chris Cochrane, Gamin, and others.
June 26 will feature E/O soloists Margaret Lancaster, Vasko Dukovski, Aaron Baird and co-director David Shively, in a theatrical melange of works by iconic composers Karlheinz Stockhausen, Mauricio Kagel, Jacob Druckman, Alvin Lucier, and others at the Whitebox Art Center.
