On December 18 in historic Speyer Hall at University Settlement, Either/Or debuts EO Improv Orchestra (EOIO), an on-going project intended to grow EO’s creative capabilities as a group by grappling with historical, contemporary, and future approaches to framing improvisation. Convened to generate highly interactive, spontaneous music, EOIO provides Either/Or with a way to manifest social democracy on the bandstand, eschewing hierarchy by performing deskilled graphic and instructional scores along with open improvisations.
Our debut performance includes performance material by EO Co-Director Richard Carrick, Spanish interdisciplinary artist and instrument builder Merche Blasco, Downtown legend Zeena Parkins, and a centenary nod to graphic score pioneer Earle Brown. Others TBA. An event not to be missed!
